Society Membership


A society membership runs from May 1st to April 30th and starts with the June issue, regardless of the date on which you join.

If you are interested in a new membership, please complete the WNYGS membership form and mail with payment. Please remember to include your zip + four code to help facilitate Society mailings.

If you are renewing your membership, please remember to use the WNYGS Renewal Form. Membership renewal is due on or before May 15th each year.

Membership Categories

  • INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP
    Dues first year $22.00 and $20.00 per year thereafter.

  • FAMILY MEMBERSHIP
    Same household and receiving one publication.
    Dues first year $27.00 and $25.00 per year thereafter.

  • LIFE MEMBERSHIP
    Individual $350.00 and Family $500.00
    Multiple payments MUST be completed within one year. Please indicate your payment preference (one time payment, semi-annually, quarterly, other).

    If living outside of the United States, please contact the Registrar for current rates and delivery options.

    Membership Benefits


  • MINIMUM OF FOUR MEETINGS per year featuring speakers, workshops, and member field trips. Programming also includes additional webinar opportunities throughout the year.

  • SUBSCRIPTION TO THE WNYGS JOURNAL. Each quarter (June, September, December, and March), you will receive a 48-page issue which includes such content as unpublished records, articles, research strategies, best practices, and upcoming Society, regional, and national events. [Digital and print versions of back issues are also available for sale to current members and the general public.]

  • USE OF THE JUNE PARTRIDGE ZINTZ MEMORIAL LIBRARY, the Society's Located in the Grosvenor Room of the Central Library (BECPL- downtown Buffalo), our reference collection includes more than 3,000 books, 900 reels of microfilm, and hundreds of genealogical and historical periodicals. Additionally, our library contains such unique Society resources as the Vital Index of Early Western New York Families and other previously submitted member Ancestor Charts, Surname Lists, and Locality Lists.

  • PARTICIPATION IN SOCIETY SERVICE INITIATIVES including the Bible and Marriage Records Project and other transcription, indexing, and record microfilming/digitization efforts.

  • COMMUNITY AND CONNECTION. Share, learn, break down brick walls, and get the latest updates by visiting the WNYGS website (www.wnygs.org) and Facebook Group and by reading our monthly Member Alerts.

  • VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. Help WNY descendants and researchers today and in the future by sharing your time, skills, and expertise with the Society.
