Schedule of Meetings and Events

The Western New York Genealogical Society hosts a minimum of four member meetings a year. These meetings are scheduled for the third Saturday of the month during March, April, May, September, October and November (unless special opportunities and/or conflicts arise). Locations may vary, so please remember to consult the published event descriptions. Additional paid trips, workshops and activities may be offered during the year.

As an added benefit, copies of handouts and presentation materials as well as videorecordings are shared with our members whenever possible.

    Annual Society Meeting & Elections with Special “Our Military Story” Program

    Buffalo History Museum, Buffalo, New York

    During our November meeting, members voted in annual elections and participating in an exciting day of programming. Library of Congress Veterans History Project trainers travelled to Buffalo to present a special two-hour workshop designed to increase participants' understanding of the personal aspects of oral history interviewing and the technical aspects of audio and video documentation. Additionally, Buffalo History Museum staff offered special docent-guided tours of “For Home & County”, a new World War I exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the war and the sacrifice of 968 lives from Western New York. Attendees explored local stories and view rarely before seen artifacts from the collection.

    The Western New York Genealogical Society and the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society was pleased to host the Western New York Genealogy Conference, a full-day event celebrating Western New York as a unique place of shared history and community. Designed for researchers of all experience levels, the two-track conference included presentations by highly respected national experts Dr. Blaine Bettinger, D. Joshua Taylor, and Jane E. Wilcox among others. Thanks to the more than 200 individuals who joined us for the event.
