Genealogy 101 Lecture

WNYGS Field Trip and Member Meet-Up: Rochester Genealogical Society's “Genealogy in Bloom” with expert Katherine R. Willson

Date: Saturday, April 27, 2019

Program Time: 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (Registration will open at 8:30 a.m.)

Event Location: Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 460 Kreag Rd., Pittsford, NY 14534.

WNYGS members will be traveling to Rochester for a day of learning and networking with the members of the Rochester (NY) Genealogical Society as they host an all-day program with expert Katherine R. Willson. Sessions will include:

  • They Didn't All Come Through Ellis Island
  • Resources for Genealogical Research in Foreign Countries
  • Reverse Genealogy: Locating Living Relatives
  • Facebook’s 12,300+ Genealogy/History Pages & Groups


    About the Speaker: Katherine R. Willson of Ann Arbor, Michigan is an engaging & dynamic genealogy lecturer at local, regional and national conferences; an educator teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced genealogy classes in Michigan since 2001; the author of The Genealogist’s Guide to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a professional researcher for private clients.


    Event Registration:
    The event is free for Rochester Genealogical Society members and $30 for guests. Individuals must register online in advance at the RGS' website at http://nyrgs.org/Events.html.

    Lunch Break:
    There will be a 1 hour and 15 min break for lunch. For those attendees who plan on bringing their own lunch, there will be tables and chairs available for their use. [Please note: Since this is a Mormon Church, attendees have been asked not to bring any coffee or tea drinks.]

    Optional WNYGS Bus:
    Thanks to the generosity of an WNYGS member who wishes to remain anonymous, the Society will be offering free transportation to and from the event for up to 35 members. Grand Tours will be the tour operator. Members will be transported using a standard school bus; the bus has open steps with a handrail. (Cost: Transportation is free for Society members, but donations in support of WNYGS are gratefully accepted).

    The schedule is as follows:

  • 7:15 a.m. Promptly depart from NYS Thruway Authority Park and Ride (Exit 49 - Depew: Paved, lit parking lot for 50 just before the toll booths - across from Garden Place Hotel on Transit Road)
  • 8:30 a.m. Arrive at venue
  • 4:15 p.m. Departure from Pittsford, NY
  • 5:30 p.m. Return to Park and Ride

    Seating is limited. Advanced registration and completed liability waiver are required for all participants.
