Join us as archivist and local author Shane E. Stephenson discusses his new book, "Buffalo's East Side Industry". This work contains information on more than 140 businesses and includes more than 200 historic images. Mr. Stephenson will detail how the area started, the diverse range of businesses, and why it came to dominate the East Side. Of particular interest to local genealogists, he will also profile many homegrown companies and the people that founded them.

During the second part of the program, Kay Green, Williams Mills Chapter, State Director District VIII, Daughters of the American Revolution, will provide an overview of the mission of the organization and how the DAR supports and promotes its mission and the National Headquarters in Washington. Irene Marks Rupp, Abigail Fillmore Chapter, National Vice-Chairman, NE Division, Volunteer Information Specialists, will highlight genealogical research at NSDAR including available records and resources and how to navigate the DAR’s website.

IMPORTANT WEEKEND TRAVEL ADVISORY:

The Exit 53 overpass, where the I-90 and the I-190 meet, was severely damaged July 11th when a vehicle pulling a large excavator crashed sideways into it, according to Thruway officials. A local contractor made temporary repairs to the bridge and now must complete the permanent repair of the structure. Contractors will be working at Interchange 53 (Downtown Buffalo) performing emergency bridge repairs to the I-90 eastbound ramp to northbound I-190 starting on Thursday.

PLEASE NOTE: The I-190 southbound ramp to eastbound I-90 will be CLOSED to all traffic, Friday at 7pm until 2am Monday. The eastbound I-90 ramp to Northbound I-190 will also be CLOSED to all traffic, Friday at 7pm until 2am Monday. Detour routes will be posted, and motorists are advised to find alternate routes and expect delays.
