April 2008 Meeting
19 April 2008 - Saturday
11:00 A.M. Brief Business Meeting
11:30 A.M. This meeting will be held at the Castellani Art Museum, Niagara University. This should be a very interesting and fun filled day. We are going to have a tour of the exhibit, Underground Railroad Interpretive Center. There were 2 major freedom routes that passed through Buffalo and Niagara Falls to Canada and we will learn what effects it had on our area.
After the tour we have a choice of things to do. For lunch you can either brown bag it or dine in their cafeteria. You can spend additional time at the museum viewing the rest of their exhibits, or the library which is directly across from the parking lot. The Library has very few genealogy resources in its collection, unless the research relates to someone who has an affiliation to Niagara University. Even if you aren't researching anyone in particular the Library is a very interesting place to visit. Another choice for the afternoon is the Niagara Power Project Power Vista which is located right outside of Niagara University on Rt. 104. The Power Vista is very interesting, it has over 50 interactive exhibits where you learn about hydroelectricity and the historic role it has played in the Niagara Frontier. Admission to everything, except lunch, is free.
Directions: Take Rt. 190 North to Exit 25A - Rt. 265. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Military Rd. Continue on Military Rd. to the end. Turn left onto 104 West. Go through the first traffic light, past the caution light at the Power Vista and at the next traffic light make a sharp left turn onto University Dr. Go for a little ways and make a left onto Senior Dr. and on your right is the museum and a parking lot. I will be by the entrance to the lot with parking passes.
